About Ailyn

Hailed by The New York Times as "a beautiful woman who commands the stage" and "a major soprano," Ailyn Pérez is in demand at the world's leading opera houses and cultural capitals. As Opera News observes, "The phrase 'an embarrassment of riches' might have been invented to describe the combination of talents that belong to Ailyn Pérez … who truly seems to have it all." Internationally celebrated for her signature artistry, as the winner of the 2012 Richard Tucker Award she became the first Hispanic recipient in the award's history.

Notable engagements of the current season include Ailyn's greatly anticipated debut as the titular character in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at Teatro di San Carlo, a role she will later revisit at Houston Grand Opera and Teatro Real de Madrid. At the Metropolitan Opera, she makes her thrilling role debut as Florencia Grimaldi in a new production of Daniel Catán's Florencia en el Amazonas and stars as Micaëla in Carmen. Additionally, she sings her first performances with Washington Concert Opera as Magda in La Rondine and takes on the title role of Tosca at Staatsoper Hamburg. Beyond the opera house, Ailyn pays tribute to Renée Fleming at the 46th annual Kennedy Center Honors Gala, and she graces the stage at Carnegie Hall for the prestigious 2023 Richard Tucker Gala Concert. She also commemorates the centenary of Puccini's death with a special concert alongside La Súper in Monterrey, Mexico, under the baton of Abdiel Vázquez.

Career highlights include Violetta (La traviata) at Opernhaus Zürich, the Staatsoper Hamburg, Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, Teatro alla Scala, and the Royal Opera House, where she was hailed as “an ideal Violetta” by the Observer. Ailyn then went on to appear at Covent Garden in the same season as the title role in Massenet’s Manon, and for her role debut as Liù in Turandot.

Recent highlights for Ailyn on the concert stage include gala concerts at the Kennedy Center and at Carnegie Hall for the 46th annual Richard Tucker Awards. She has also sung Verdi’s Requiem with the Orchestre Métropolitain under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Mozart’s Requiem with Antonio Pappano and the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Essener Philharmoniker.

A recipient of the Beverly Sills Artist Award, Ailyn is a graduate of Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts and Indiana University. She serves as Artistic Advisor as part of the faculty at the Vincero Academy and is an Opera for Peace Ambassador.

    • Micaëla was Ailyn Pérez’s debut role at the Met in 2015 and it remains a perfect fit for her. The middle of Pérez’s soprano is rich and molten, which colored every phrase with passion and emotion. Micaëla’s touching aria which she sings as she searches for Don José, was as plaintive as it was lovely.
