Albert Herring
Opera NorthDafydd Jones is the new Albert, making his debut with the company, and he made the role his own, with a voice that’s entirely on top of it and a repertoire of facial expressions for the reluctant good boy.

As Albert himself, Dafydd Jones makes an auspicious company debut, his glossy, high-lying tenor ideally placed for the role.

Dafydd Jones gets Herring’s awkwardness off to a tee as he confidently makes his debut with Opera North; he has a lovely mellow tone. He looked the part and communicated his predicament well, especially as he sat trembling before he was crowned.

Our unlikely hero was perfectly captured in Dafydd Jones’ performance….it was no surprise that his beautifully rounded, mellifluous tone proved ideal for this role.

Dafydd Jones was an Albert anyone could root for: projecting flustered, wide-eyed decency and letting his tenor ring firm and clear as he finally asserts himself.
- Richard Bratby, The Spectator

Dafydd Jones is a delight as Albert, giving vent to lyrical outbursts in contrast to his down-trodden manner and ending up as gleeful as he deserves.
