About Daniel

General Music Director: Landestheater Coburg

The General Music Director at Landestheater Coburg, Daniel Carter has been a Conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since August 2019. In his first season in Berlin his performances included A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hänsel und Gretel, La bohème and Les Contes d’Hoffmann. In 23/24 Daniel Carter made his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper (Die Zauberflöte) and will return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin with a new production of John Adams’ Nixon in China. Furthermore he has successfully given his debut at the Malmö Opera with a new production of Turandot.

After his engagement in 2013 at the Staatsoper Hamburg, first as a Repetiteur, then as Conductor and Musical Assistant to Simone Young, Daniel became Principal Conductor at Theater Freiburg in 2015.

Daniel studied Composition and Piano Performance at the University of Melbourne, Australia. During his studies he worked as Developing Artist Conductor and Musical Assistant to the Music Director at Victorian Opera. In 2012 he was awarded the Brian Stacey Award for Emerging Australian Conductors. This was followed by multiple engagements with Victorian Opera (including the Australian Premiere of Elliott Carter’s What Next?), Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Sydney Theatre Company, the Sydney and Melbourne Festivals, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Australian Youth Orchestra.
