About Jader
Music Director: Detroit Symphony Orchestra
Jader Bignamini was appointed Music Director of the Detroit Symphony in January 2020. In December 2023, a five-year contract extension was announced seeing the partnership through to the to 2030/31 season.
In addition to concerts in Detroit, the 2023/24 season sees Jader debut with the London Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, Washington’s National Symphony and New Japan Philharmonic, alongside returns to Milwaukee Symphony, Wiener Staatsoper (for Manon Lescaut) and Opéra national de Paris (for Adriana Lecouvreur).
Recent symphonic engagements have included dates with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Frankfurt’s hr–Sinfonieorchester, The Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Dallas Symphony and Berner Symphonieorchester, alongside productions for Bayerische Staatsoper, The Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Oper Frankurt.
A native of Crema, Jader Bignamini started his career as a clarinettist. He began his conducting career first as Assistant and then as Resident Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, having been appointed by Riccardo Chailly in 2010.

Kennedy Center, WashingtonOct 2023Bignamini set and maintained an incisively fast tempo, working the foamy cascades of sound from brass and metallic percussion into furious sprays...Again a brisk pacing from Bignamini churned this climactic movement into an exciting mass of sound, with crisply articulated trombones burbling beneath the surface along with the Concert Hall organ’s rumbling pedal pipes.
