About Jusung Gabriel

South Korean baritone Jusung Gabriel Park is currently a member of the Ensemble of the Wiener Staatsoper, where he has performed notable roles such as Masetto in Don Giovanni and Wagner in Faust. In the 2024/25 season, his roles include Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, Dancaïro in Carmen, and First Mate in Billy Budd.

Jusung has gained recognition for his artistry, being the Third Prize winner at Operalia 2021 and representing South Korea at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in the same year. In Korea, he has also achieved success in various competitions, including Third Prize at the Schubert Lied competition and the Silver Prize at The Korea National Opera Competition.

Recent and forthcoming engagements include Argante in Rinaldo at Detroit Opera; singing Des KnabenWunderhorn at the Concertgebouw with pianist Julius Drake; performing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jaap Van Zweden, as well as with the Milan Symphony Orchestra on tour in Italy and Switzerland; singing and recording the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elias with the Bayerischer Rundfunk Chor & Orchestra, highlighting his role as an ensemble member; a duo concert with Sumi Jo at the Vienna Musikverein with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra; a Liederabend at FestwochenGmunden with pianist Helmut Deutsch; Fenicio in Ermione and Idraote in Armida at the Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad, where he was awarded the International Bel Canto Prize; the title role in Le nozze di Figaro and Leporello in Don Giovanni at Theater Rudolstadt in collaboration with the Thüringer Symphoniker Orchestra; and an Opera Gala Concert with the Nürnberg Symphonike

Jusung also has a special affinity for concert repertoire. He performed the Korean premiere of H.K. Gruber’s Frankenstein!! with the TIMF Orchestra. He appeared as a principal artist at the Chuncheon International Early Music Festival, where he sang Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. He regularly performs as a soloist in Bach’s Johannes-Passion, Weihnachtsoratorium, Christen ätzetdiesen Tag, Dvořák’s Mass in D, and Fauré’s Requiem.

He took part in the Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the International Meistersinger Akademie (IMA) under the guidance of Edith Wiens. He studied voice at Yonsei University and the mdw, under the tutelage of Chang-gon Kim, Kwang-dong Kim, Hei-kyung Hong, Florian Boesch, and Margit Klaushofer.
