Acclaimed by Le Monde as a "miracle of vocal firmness" and a "soprano voice that shines like the morning sun of Provence" (Der Tagesspiegel), Mariangela Sicilia has achieved immense success with both audiences and critics at numerous prestigious opera houses and international festivals, including Opéra national de Paris, Teatro Real de Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Salzburg Festival, Sydney Opera House, Dutch National Opera, and Opéra de Monte-Carlo, as well as Les Choregies d’Orange, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Royal Opera House in Muscat, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, and Arena di Verona.
She has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Sir Mark Elder, Asher Fisch, Riccardo Frizza, Francesco Lanzillotta, Michele Mariotti, Stefano Montanari, Riccardo Muti, Chung Myung-whun, Daniel Oren, Antonio Pappano, Donato Renzetti, Daniele Rustioni, Alberto Zedda, and directors including Robert Carsen, Rosetta Cucchi, Hugo De Ana, Denis Krief, Gabriele Lavia, Davide Livermore, Terry Gilliam, David McVicar, Damiano Michieletto, Jonathan Miller, Chiara Muti, Stefano Poda and Sir Graham Vick.
In the 24/25 season, Mariangela makes an exciting debut as Alcina at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in a new production by Pierre Audi. She returns to Rome later in the season to sing Micaëla Carmen. She also returns to Teatro alla Scala for a Puccini Gala with Anna Netrebko and Jonas Kaufmann conducted by Riccardo Chailly and Petite messe solennelle conducted by Daniele Gatti, and to Teatro Comunale di Bologna for Nedda Pagliacci and Fiordiligi Così fan tutte. She makes her Teatro La Fenice debut singing in the New Years Concert with Daniel Harding and her Sofia Opera & Ballet debut singing Verdi’s Requiem with Daniel Oren.
In the 23/24 season, Mariangela made her long-awaited Teatro alla Scala debut as Magda in a new production of La rondine conducted by Riccardo Chailly. She also sang Rachel La Juive at Teatro Regio di Torino, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and Mimì La bohème at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Macerata Opera Festival. On the concert stage, she performed Verdi’s Requiem with the Human Rights Orchestra and Alessio Allegrini, and Bruckner’s Te Deum at Arena di Verona with Pinchas Steinberg.
Other operatic highlights include Mimì La bohème at Sydney Opera House, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Deutsche Oper Berlin; Violetta La traviata at Teatro di San Carlo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Royal Opera House Muscat, and Deutsche Oper Berlin; Desdemona Otello at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Teatro Verdi di Trieste; Micaëla Carmen at Teatro Regio di Torino and Arena di Verona; Donna Elvira Don Giovanni at Teatro Regio di Torino and Teatro Massimo di Palermo; Donna Anna Don Giovanni at Teatro Regio di Parma and Royal Opera House Muscat; Giulietta I Capuleti e i Montecchi at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Corinna Il viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival di Pesaro, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Palau de la Reina Sofia di Valencial; Teresa Benvenuto Cellini at Dutch National Opera and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma; Adina L’elisir d’amore at Teatro Regio di Torino, Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Macerata Opera Festival.
Mariangela Sicilia refined her skills under the technical guidance of Maestro Fernando Cordeiro Opa, previously studying with soprano Carmela Remigio and Maestro Leone Magiera. She honed her repertoire at the Mozart Academy of the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Rossini Academy of Pesaro.
She won third prize at the 2014 Operalia competition in Los Angeles. Mariangela recorded the role of Vivetta in the first commercial world recording on DVD and Blu-Ray of Cilea's L'arlesiana, released by Dynamic label in 2013. The DVD/Blu-Ray of Benvenuto Cellini featuring Mariangela in the role of Teresa is also available (Naxos).

Maggio Musicale FiorentinoNov 2023the excellent Mimì by Mariangela Sicilia who proves to be the spearhead of a well-assorted cast. The soprano appears to be completely master of the role, in which she debuted in the famous 2018 Bolognese production conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Graham Vick.

Mimì by Mariangela Sicilia stands out above all. In fact, the dynamics to which the voice bends are surprising, especially in piano and pianissimi, as can already be seen from “Yes, they call me Mimì” which is practically whispered, almost shy. The result is a delicate Mimì with undeniable grip and charm
