About Miles
A graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and The Juilliard School, and a winner of the 2019 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Finnish-American tenor Miles Mykkanen is rapidly garnering recognition on the world’s concert and operatic stages.
Highlights in Miles' 2024/25 season include his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Graf Albert Die tote Stadt and a return to The Cleveland Orchestra for staged performances of Jenůfa under the baton of Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. The tenor’s broad artistic range is also showcased in two productions at Dutch National Opera: Alfred in Barrie Kosky's new production of Die Fledermaus with chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti as well as in the world premiere of Philip Venables' new opera We Are The Lucky Ones directed by Ted Huffman.
Recent appearances include Steuermann Der Fliegende Holländer in his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; The Bridegroom in his San Francisco Opera debut in the North American premiere of Kaija Saariaho's Innocence, Boris Godunov, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Ariadne auf Naxos and Wozzeck at the Metropolitan Opera, New York and debuts at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in L’incoronazione di Poppea and the Staatsoper Hamburg in Falstaff. Candide, a signature role for Miles, has brought him to venues including the Opéra de Lausanne, Arizona Opera, Palm Beach Opera and the Ravinia and Tanglewood Festivals.
On the concert platform, Miles has appeared with the New York Philharmonic and the Atlanta, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Oregon and Kansas City Symphony orchestras.
Miles is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Emberlight Festival.
