About Rodion

Rodion Pogossov joined the Lindemann Young Artist Development Programme at the beginning of his early career. He regularly sings at The Metropolitan Opera and previous engagements there have included Il barbiere di SivigliaDie Zauberflöte and Don Pasquale.

As a recording artist, Rodion’s discography includes his solo recital disc for the prestigious EMI Debut Series which received great acclaim and was followed by a disc of Rachmaninov songs with pianist Iain Burnside, released in 2014.

Recent highlights for Rodion include Glyndebourne Festival for a role debut as Don Geronio in Il turco in Italia, LA Opera for La Cenerentola, a debut at Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona as Yeletsky (Queen of Spades), as well as returns to Cincinnati Opera as Marcello (La bohème), Seattle Opera for L’elisir d’amore, Teatro Regio Torino for Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Malmö Opera for The Makropolous Case.

Engagements for the 2023/24 begin with his return to the Royal Opera House to appear as Fra Melitone in La forza del Destino, followed by The Metropolitan Opera for La bohème, Tonhalle Zürich to perform Faure’s Requiem, and Glyndebourne Festival for Die Zauberflöte in the summer.

    • As is often the way, Papageno frequently stole the show, with Rodion Pogossov delivering the comedy just the right side of pure slapstick, with plenty of deft sight gags, but convincing in his mischievously reluctant character. His direct baritone matched Paul Appleby’s lyrical tenor well vocally, and they formed a great double act, contrasting the simple innocence of Appleby’s Tamino with Pogossov’s comic resistance.

    • With his secure baritone, Rodion Pogossov is quite a sensitive Papageno who certainly arouses our sympathy
