PlayingMark Simpson Concertino for Trumpet and Orchestra, Simon Höfele
...trumpeter Simon Höfele, who is celebrated on all major stages, very well, so a "bite-sized" adaptation was no problem. Like everything the composer, who was born in Liverpool in 1988, writes, this piece is also developed entirely from a joyful, musical impulse. It unfolds large melodic arcs and does not skimp on virtuoso effects - a modernism that consciously seeks a dialogue with the audience. Credit: DUISBURGER PHILHARMONIKER

Rhein-Mosel-HalleApr 2024Simon Hofele takes up the challenge with appropriate relish: technically confident, the 30-year old captivates with a supple playing that impresses with its softness, warmth, sensitivity and, in the slow middle movement, 'singing qualities. At the same time, he knows the sharp possibilities of music.
