About Viktoria

One of the world’s greatest violin virtuosos, Viktoria Mullova’s musical horizons continue to expand, journeying into jazz and world music, working with period ensembles as well as appearing each season with international orchestras and conductors.

Viktoria continues her collaboration with Alasdair Beatson playing Beethoven and Schubert on gut strings and fortepiano. During their three-year collaboration they have released their first Beethoven disc, recording and released during the pandemic lockdowns; a second album featuring Schubert appeared in April 2022 and further recordings of Beethoven sonatas will follow to complete the cycle.

With Mullova Ensemble, Viktoria has begun a new exploration of Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht. Taking the central themes of Dehmel’s poem as the focal point, the Ensemble presents new compositions by Jasmine Morris featuring choreography from Joshua Junker, alongside works by Bach, Debussy and Strauss, set to a backdrop of lighting projection and natural soundscapes. The project premiered at London’s Barbican Centre in October 2023 before touring.

As well as her own projects, she has also commissioned works from composers such as Pascal Dusapin, Fraser Trainer, Thomas Larcher and Dai Fujikura.

Viktoria is based in London

    • What stands out is the balance and ease of interplay between the two musicians. Their sunny performance of Op.30 No.1 has effortless push and pull between moments of repose and passages of high energy. The central movement of Op 12 No 1 shifts convincingly through variations of quiet intimacy and fiery turbulence...the sense of rustic abandon they create in this work is infectiously gleeful.
