Youth Music Culture The Greater Bay Area
Introduction
Following the appointment of Daniel Harding as Chairman of Artistic Committee from 2024-28, Askonas Holt is delighted to be partnering with Youth Music Culture The Greater Bay Area (YMCG).
Working with Daniel and Artistic Director Long Yu, a world-renowned faculty of professional musicians has been assembled from some of the greatest orchestras around the globe, including the Wiener Philharmoniker, Berliner Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and London Symphony Orchestra.
Across a two-week residency, over 100 young musicians from China and abroad participate in symphonic and chamber concerts, masterclasses and workshops, and community performances, under the guidance and mentorship of the faculty members. In 2025, for the second edition of the residency, public concerts will be presented in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, students will perfom Britten Nocturnes with internationally renowned tenor Ian Bostridge CBE, and Mahler's First Symphony in the second half.
The second edition of the residency follows the same philosophy as last year by offering moments of exchange and discussion among students, as well as chamber music concerts, and a special concert by Ian Bostridge performing Schubert's Winterreise accompanied by Wenwen Du.

Classical Music
‘The most important thing is what we can bring to society artistically today. Not just Western music, but the most interesting contemporary Chinese music. Arts and musicians are the best ambassadors to bring everything together.’ Chamber music is a vital part of that. ‘Everyone should learn how to listen, even husband and wife. For me personally, it is very important to support the young generation. They are the future.’ - Long Yu ‘The progress has been phenomenal, and in the end that’s how you judge a project like this’ - Daniel Harding
